Q. Do I have to be a Registered
Environmental Health Specialist or Registered Sanitarian to join MEHA?
A. No. Anyone
with an interest in environmental health is welcome
to join.
Q. Who can join MEHA?
A. Active membership is offered
to anyone engaged in environmental health activities for a public or private organization. Student membership is available to a full-time student working towards a degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or an associated discipline.
Sustaining membership is available to individuals or organizations expressing an interest in MEHA and its objectives.

Q. What are the annual dues to join MEHA?
A. Active membership is $30.00
per year. There is no fee for Student membership.
Q. What are the benefits of joining
a professional organization such as MEHA?
A. As a member
you receive a free subscription to the quarterly MEHA Newsletter
filled with timely environmental health news, innovative &
practical ideas, and information about other MEHA members. Additionally, you will receive discounts on registration fees for MEHA's educational
conferences, including the Annual Spring Conference. A list of upcoming events
is available. Membership in MEHA offers a great opportunity to network with other environmental health professionals from around
the state and nation!
Q. How do I join a committee
in MEHA?
A. MEHA members
are encouraged to serve on our many
committees.

Q. Can MEHA help me find a job
in environmental health?
A.
Job openings are posted on this website when they become announced. But some jobs
may be filled without fanfare. By becoming a MEHA member, you
can network with other Environmental Health professionals
to find employment in industry and government. Attendance at our
3 conferences each year is an excellent way to learn about job
opportunities.
Q. Does MEHA provide scholarship
monies to environmental health students?
A. MEHA, through
the Minnesota Medical Foundation, does provide scholarship monies
to selected students enrolled in the Division of Environmental
and Occupational Health, School of Public Health at the University
of Minnesota. These monetary awards have ranged from a minimum
of $500.00 up to a maximum of 5% of the accrued principle as
of July 1st each year. To this point, the largest award to an
individual has been $1,000.
Q. Is MEHA a not-for-profit organization?
A. Yes. MEHA
qualifies as a not-for-profit entity under USC 401c.
Q. Does MEHA get involved in
legislative issues?
A. Yes. Active
participation in the legislative process is highly encouraged
for public health issues.
Q. I want to be a MEHA member.
Do I have to join NEHA first?
A. No. You may
join MEHA separately. However all MEHA members are encouraged
to join the National Environmental Health Association for even more benefits! MEHA is the official Minnesota affiliate of NEHA.

Q. What do Environmental Health
Specialists do? What is rewarding about working in this field?
A. An Environmental
Health Specialist's focus is on the relationships with human
health and the environment. This may be through inspection and
regulations, education, research and partnerships with industry
in a variety of discipline areas.. Environmental health specialists
work in food safety, hazardous materials control, air pollution, water quality, and a variety of other disciplines. The rewards are that you are helping improve environmental conditions that affect people's lives and their health and safety!
